Mented Cosmetics, a new makeup line for women of color founded by entrepreneurs Amanda Johnson and KJ Miller, has raised $1 million in venture capital, Forbes reports. The vegan, cruelty-free brand offers lip gloss, lipstick and nail polish — all in nude shades formulated for darker skin tones.

The lip shades are available in Brand Nude, Dope Taupe, Peach Please, Mented #5, Brown Bare, Nude LaLa, Dark Night, Foxy Brown, and Pretty in Pink.

The founders describe the moment they decided to create a cosmetics brand, stating on Mented’s website, “One night, over a glass of pinot, we sat down and asked ourselves why it was so hard to find the perfect nude lipstick. That conversation sparked an idea, and that idea became the brand we are building today.”

The brand’s recent investment will go towards expanding its product range, which will include eye palettes, according to Forbes. The founders also say they plan to invest in marketing, since they have been relying on word of mouth and social media since the collection debuted earlier this year.
